Research&Planning: Film Company Logos

Before creating a logo for our film company, I have researched existing film company logos to help design our logo. The independent film company logos are much simpler than the conglomerate film company logos so when I create my film companies logo I will create it like a independent film companies logo.

Research&Planning: Film Poster Analysis

From the poster we can tell the genre of the film straight away due to the picture used and the font used. The picture used is a master shot given us the sense that the person in the picture is the man character of the film. The use of blood, the position the girl is stood and all the mise-en-scene used on the picture helps show the genre of the film. From the position of the girl we get a scene of the narrative as we can see that she is possessed in some way, also the tagline 'believe in him' tells us that she is being possessed by somebody, who is a male. The dark grey colours and the bright red also gives us the sense of genre.
From the poster we know that the audience of the film will be for both male and female over the age of 15. The mise-en-scene, title font, colours and the tagline 'believe in him' tell us that the audience will be an older audience because it is an horror film.

The medium close up of the mans face shows us that he is the main character of the film. His face has been made too look gray and bright blue eyes so you are drawn in to look at his eyes. This helps show the genre of the film as there is use of dark colours, his facial expression and the way his eyes stand out and their positioning. The use of dark red colours round his face give a sense of horror and blood. From the poster we don't get much narrative of what the film is about. From the mise-en-scene used on the poster, the font of the title and the tagline 'you can only defeat it when you believe' gives use a sense of what type of audience the film will have.  The audience seems to be male and female over the age of 15, I think it would more appeal to males 18 to 25.

Research&Planning: Film Posters

Before creating my film posters for my film, I have research horror film posters so that I can get an idea what features and texts are used on a horror film poster.

Research&Planning: Film Magazine Covers

I have reasearch film magazine covers so that I can get Idea of what to put on my Film magazine cover when it come to making it. I have search for horror film magazine covers because that is the genre of film I am going to be making.

Research&Planning: Possible Film Names/Meeting 3

  1. Dominon
  2. House Of Darkness
  3. The Unnoted
  4. Lifeless
  5. The Retribution
  6. Mind Play
  7. Breathless
  8. No Escape

Research&Planning Production Schedule

Research&Planning: Production Company Name Word It Out

Research&Planning: Prop and Costume List

Props and costume list

In the background of our house scenes there will be books, laptops, iPod's and alcohol to show the audience that the characters are stereotypical students. When we do scenes outside of the house we'll always have one prop that indicates there a student for example carrying books around.

When the girl gets possessed were going to create the look by using dark eye make up for the eyes and white makeup for the face. To create the wild crazy hair were going to use a back comb in a bottle.

The confident girls in  the house will wear stuff like short short's and little tops, but the girl who's shy and the most vulnerable one will wear stuff like big jumpers, the more vulnerable girl  is the one who gets possessed.

Research&Planning: Equipment and Software List

Equipment and Software List

  • Photoshop
  • Garage Band
  • SLR Camera
  • Sony HD Camera
  • IMovie
  • Final Cut
  • IPhoto
  • Canon mini DV

I would use the Canon mini DV camera for test shots for my trailer, this would help me see if I need different lighting or angles, before I used the Sony HD camera to film my trailer.
I would use Final Cut to add the editing to my trailer. Final Cut is an more professional program than IMovie so would give me better results in my editing, if I practiced and got familiar with the program.
I could use IMovie instead of Final Cut as I am more familiar with this program, therefore may be able to get better results.

I would use the Sony HD camera do to most of the filming for my trailer, as it will give me better quality of film than the Canon Mini DV would.

I would use Photoshop when creating my poster for the trailer and when creating the front cover to a film magazine, which my trailer would be the main feature of.
The SLR camera would be used for taking the pictures for my poster and film magazine cover, the SLR camera has many settings and gives a better result in pictures than a normal camera would, therefore making the pictures look more professional.
Garage Band will be used when creating the sound effects and music for the trailer.
Iphoto will be used for viewing the pictures taken for the poster and magazine cover.

Research&Planning: Treatment

We have used to use plot one from our proposals, we have chosen to uses this plot because we believe that we will be able to create it better than the other plot we thought of, we also believe that plot one is more viable.

A master shot showing the house and the four girls from behind with their suitcases, moving in. Shots of the girls faces would then be shown, three of the girls looking happy and can't wait to move in then one of the girls who's slightly stood behind the rest of the girls, looks a bit concerned. When the girls are shown there will be a medium close up with all the girls in, so their facial expressions can be seen by the audience. A jump cut will be used to change to the next scene.

The next scene will just show normal life in a student house, them socializing, listening to music and drinking, dissolving and using jump cuts showing each one of the girls separately. Natural sounds and music will be played during these scenes.

That night, one of the girls is shown sleeping, an object moves/Door moves. There is an master shot of the room, When the object moves the girl in bed moves.

Through out the rest of the trailer there will be scenes showing bits of what is happening to the girl, and the effect it has. The other girls in the house don't really believe or see anything in the house, what the other girl does.

There will be a scene of the girl in bed, when she gets possessed, from above her and the side shots so the audience can see clearly what is happening to her. There will also be a scene of the girl walking around the house, running her finger across surfaces and whistling.

The end scene of the trailer will be a new cast. The new reader stating 'three girls found dead, and one missing' it will be the main/breaking news.

Throughout the trailer there cuts between the scenes will be jump cuts, which get faster as they the trailer goes on, so its like a big build up. Dissolves will also be used because if they also get faster through the trailer it will also build up the trailer.

Dialogue of the characters in the film will be used through the trailer, as well as music and natural sounds. There will also be use of screaming, big bangs and whistling

In London we visited different places,
We visited
  • Film Museum
  • BBFC
  • Madame Tussads
  • Tourist Places, such as big ben
  • Theatre

Research&Planning: Editing Research

Research

Editing is where you take raw footage, putting it into a good order and combining them into a sequences using editing effects to create a finished motion picture.

Why is editing important?

  • Editing makes the film flow and be as smooth as possible

Research&Planning: Sound Test

In our group we used garage band for the first time. This was to see what we could do on it already, also making use more familiar with the program so that we can use it when It comes to making the music for our trailer.
